Jungle Cruise (2021)

(If this is your first time on this blog, I ask you to read my About page first! Thanks!)

Jungle Cruise is the latest Disney film based on a theme park attraction. Beloved by many for its laid-back nature and enjoyable sufferable puns, Jungle Cruise is an interesting choice for a film as it’s pretty plotless giving the screenwriters pretty much carte blanche with originating a story. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, the film was delayed multiple times until finally being released in 2021. Is this a riverboat adventure or more of a beached ferryboat experience? Read on to find out!

And remember, SPOILERS AHEAD!

(Keep in mind that these are only the theatrically-released live-action Disney films that are eligible to be reviewed on my blog. Hence, there will be no Star Wars, Marvel Studios, or documentary films listed. I also haven’t decided whether or not to review Disney+ original films yet. Finally, keep in mind that these dates are tentative and subject to change. Enjoy!)

Mary Poppins Returns (2018)

(If this is your first time on this blog, I ask you to read my About page first! You can find a link to it at the top left-hand corner of this blog. Thanks!)

When I had first heard that they were making a sequel to Mary Poppins, I was quite opposed to it! Mary Poppins is my absolute favorite live-action Disney film and a cinema classic at that! It didn’t need a sequel!

But I mellowed toward the idea for one particular reason: this sequel was coming out during the current era we are in of Disney making live-action remakes of their animated films. As I’ve made very clearly multiple times in the past, I’m against those remakes, in principle, as I feel they disparage the medium of animation. So because this would be a live-action sequel to a live-action film rather than a live-action remake of an animated film, I opened my heart a bit to its existence.

The film would be directed by Rob Marshall who previously directed Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Into the Woods for Disney. While I wasn’t in love with either film, I had hope that maybe he could do something satisfactory with this remake. Did it turn out practically perfect in every way? Here’s my review of Mary Poppins Returns!

And remember, SPOILERS AHEAD!

Did the film meet our expectations or was it a disappointment? Let’s find out via my review of The Muppets!

Into the Woods (2014)

Today’s film is based on a musical that I had never heard of before much less heard of the songs before. But apparently, it’s a pretty big deal. Although it didn’t have the fame of musicals such as Les Misérables or The Phantom of the Opera, fans considered it of the same caliber.

I didn’t really know what to expect while watching this other than the fact that there were going to be about a bunch of fairy tale characters in one setting.

I had some familiarity with that already.

So was this film a good way to get me acquainted with the musical? Well, let’s take a look.

And remember, SPOILERS AHEAD!
