Well, 2020 is coming to an end, a fact that most people in the world are happy about. We’re all hoping and praying that 2021 will be a better year. Before I take my usual winter break and resume blogging in January, let’s take a look at the upcoming live-action Disney films coming out next year. Keep in mind that these are only the films with set release dates at the moment and do not include any documentaries, Marvel films, or Star Wars films. Also, since I’m now reviewing Disney+ films, I will be including them in this list. So, sit back and enjoy!
1) FLORA & ULYSSES [February 19, 2021]
Based on a children’s novel of the same name, a girl adopts a squirrel who possesses superpowers.
Starring Matilda Lawler, Alyson Hannigan, Ben Schwartz, Danny Pudi, Bobby Moynihan, Kate Micucci (is this a DuckTales reunion?), etc.
Directed by Lena Khan
2) CRUELLA [May 28, 2021]
We get another origin story of that Dalmatian-loving Cruella De Vil because Glenn Close’s films weren’t enough, I guess.
Starring Emma Stone, Emma Thompson, Joel Fry, Paul Walter Hauser, Mark Strong, etc.
Directed by Craig Gillespie
3) JUNGLE CRUISE [July 30, 2021]
Based on the Disney attraction of the same name, this multiple-time delayed film tells the story of a scientist, her brother, and a riverboat captain as they explore a jungle to find a tree with healing powers.
Starring Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, Jack Whitehall, Édgar Ramírez, Paul Giamatti, Jesse Plemons, etc.
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra
As you can see, there aren’t many live-action Disney films with set release dates for 2021 yet, but I’m sure that that will change. I’m not super excited about any one of these films, to be honest. If I had to pick one film to be the one I’m most excited to see, it would be Jungle Cruise, I guess.
What about you? Let me know in the comments!
