I shall be taking a break on this blog for the rest of the year and will resume posting my reviews in January 2018. Until then, I decided to do something similar to what I do on my other blog, The Animation Commendation, wherein I give you a guys a look at the live-action Disney films set to be theatrically released next year!
But, keep in mind that these are only the live-action films that I will review for this blog, hence there will be no Star Wars or Marvel Studios-related films on this list. Also keep in mind that these dates are liable to change at any time! Enjoy!
1) A WRINKLE IN TIME [March 9, 2018]
Directed by Ava DuVernay, this film based on the novel of the same name, deals with a teenage girl who sets off to rescue her astrophysicist father after he is held captive on a distant planet. Starring Storm Reid, Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Chris Pine, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Zach Galifianakis, etc.
2) CHRISTOPHER ROBIN [August 3, 2018]
Directed by Marc Forster, this live-action adaptation of Disney’s Winnie the Pooh franchise features an adult Christopher Robin who has lost all imagination and it’s up to his Hundred Acre Wood friends to help him find it again. Starring Ewan McGregor, Hayley Atwell, Mark Gatiss, and w/the voices of Brad Garrett, Nick Mohammed, etc.
3) THE NUTCRACKER AND THE FOUR REALMS [November 2, 2018]
Directed by Lasse Hallström, this adaptation of the story, The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, deals with a young girl who finds a Nutcracker doll and is charged by her parents to take special care of it. Starring Mackenzie Foy, Keira Knightley, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, Miranda Hart, Jack Whitehall, etc.
4) MARY POPPINS RETURNS [December 25, 2018]
Directed by Rob Marshall, this sequel to the 1964 classic, Mary Poppins, which takes place 25 years after the film, deals with Mary Poppins revisiting a now-adult Jane and Michael Banks after they’ve experienced a family tragedy. Starring Emily Blunt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Dick Van Dyke, Angela Lansbury, etc.
Which films are you looking forward to? The Nutcracker and the Four Realms looks creative and I’m somewhat interested in Mary Poppins Returns.
These all look interesting and I’m excited about all of them, but the one with the slight edge is A Wrinkle in Time. Ava DuVernay directed Selma, which is one of my all-time favorite films.
I was a bit underwhelmed by Selma, to be honest.
Here’s hoping she wins you over in 2018.
I’m actually pretty interested in all 4 of these.
Let’s hope they don’t disappoint!
