I shall be taking a break on this blog for the rest of the year and will resume posting my reviews in January 2019. Until then, take a look at the upcoming live-action Disney films set to hit theaters next year!
(Keep in mind that these are only the theatrically-released live-action Disney films that are eligible to be reviewed on my blog. Hence, there will be no Star Wars, Marvel Studios, or documentary films listed. Also keep in mind that these dates are liable to change at any time! Enjoy!)
1) DUMBO [March 29, 2019]
Directed by Tim Burton, this is the first of THREE live-action remakes of animated Disney classics set to hit theaters in 2019! It’s loosely inspired by the 1941 animated Disney film, but has many more human characters who seem important to the story. Starring Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Eva Green, Alan Arkin, etc.
2) ALADDIN [May 24, 2019]
Directed by Guy Ritchie, this is the second of THREE live-action remakes of animated Disney classics set to hit theaters in 2019! If you’re familiar with the 1992 animated Disney film, I think you’ll be prepared for what this film has to offer. Starring Mena Massoud, Will Smith, Naomi Scott, Marwan Kenzari, Nasim Pedrad, Billy Magnussen, etc.
3) THE LION KING [July 19, 2019]
Directed by Jon Favreau (who also directed the live-action The Jungle Book), this is the third of THREE live-action remakes of animated Disney classics set to hit theaters in 2019! Yes, I know this is technically animated (or photorealistic), but everyone will be comparing it with all the other live-action films, so that’s why I will still review it on this blog. Again, if you’re familiar with the 1994 animated Disney film, I think you pretty much know what’s going to happen in this film. W/the voices of Donald Glover, James Earl Jones, Beyoncé, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, John Oliver, etc.
4) ARTEMIS FOWL [August 9, 2019]
Directed by Kenneth Branagh (who also directed the live-action Cinderella), this film is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Eoin Colfer. In order to rescue his criminal father, Artemis Fowl and his bodyguard must seek and rob fairies. Apparently, that’s the story; I’ve never read the book (or any other in the series) myself. Starring Ferdia Shaw, Lara McDonnell, Nonso Anozie, Judi Dench, Josh Gad, etc.
Which films are you looking forward to? I’m interested to see how Artemis Fowl will turn out!
