Alright, how many people were honestly asking for a fifth one of these?

I doubt it was that many!

I guess I don’t need to introduce this franchise as everyone in the world pretty much knows about it! But, I never imagined that we would be getting a fifth Pirates of the Caribbean film! Is it good like the first film, ok like the second, or more along the lines of the third and fourth? Let’s take a look at Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales!

As you all know, I wasn’t really a fan of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. I couldn’t fathom how that movie garnered over a billion dollars at the worldwide box office! But, it was no surprise to me that Disney decided to make a sequel to the film.

Released 6 years later, the sequel couldn’t compete at all with its predecessor and underperformed at the box office. I hoped that this would halt Disney’s plans on remaking more of its animated films!

I think this makes it highly unlikely!

Anyway, I eventually saw this film. Is it as bad as people say it is? Or does it have some level of goodness to it that’s been overlooked? Get your looking-glasses handy and let’s take a look at Alice Through the Looking Glass together!

Today’s film is based on a musical that I had never heard of before much less heard of the songs before. But apparently, it’s a pretty big deal. Although it didn’t have the fame of musicals such as Les Misérables or The Phantom of the Opera, fans considered it of the same caliber.

I didn’t really know what to expect while watching this other than the fact that there were going to be about a bunch of fairy tale characters in one setting.

I had some familiarity with that already.

So was this film a good way to get me acquainted with the musical? Well, let’s take a look.

Just when you thought the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy was finished, Disney pulled a George Lucas and continued the franchise. This time around, there’s no Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom, Naomie Harris, or most of Jack Sparrow’s pirate crew. This film would be just Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Kevin McNally, and a bunch of new characters.

So how does this film fare? Let’s find out!

Jack Sparrow is back in this third installment of the beloved franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean. This film was actually filmed alongside the second one and follows it nigh immediately. So, I recommend for you to read my Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest review first before reading this one (if you haven’t done so already), because I’m not going to go over things that I’ve already gone over in that review.

With that out of the way, let’s take a look at Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End!

As soon as I heard about this movie being made, I realized that it was going to be a financial flop! Why did I think this? Well, 2 reasons:

1) The last two attempts to make a movie based on this radio series character from the 30’s were unsuccessful. And if they were unsuccessful in the years 1981 and 2003, I really didn’t see a 2013 film behaving any differently.

The 2013 version shall join his branded brethren.
The 2013 version would most assuredly join his branded brethren.

2) This film kept getting pushed back due to budget concerns and that’s almost never a good sign.

Nevertheless, Disney thought that they could make a profit with this film and even went so far as to secure their beliefs by casting one of their biggest stars, Johnny Depp, in the film. Yet, the film still flopped!

"That doesn't make any sense to me."

But does that mean that the film is no good? Well, let’s find out! (10 points to people who read this review while wearing a mask!)

With the success of the first film, it wasn’t long before a sequel to “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” was made. The film was a huge box-office hit, grossing over a billion dollars worldwide. Is it as good as the first? No.

"I mean...dudette."

This film suffers from an incredibly complicated combination of plots as well as a very long running time. Yet, I still have to review it. Here’s the review of “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest”.

Alice in Wonderland (2010)

Alice-in-Wonderland

Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking-Glass” opened up a wonderful fantasy land to us, one that was driven by nonsense, rather than logic.

And people around the world fell in love with this wondrous, illogical Wonderland. The appeal of this fictional place as well as that of its characters naturally inspired filmmakers to adapt Lewis Carroll’s books to film numerous times over the years. Walt Disney was one of these filmmakers, hence he created the animated classic, “Alice in Wonderland”, as well as an animated/live-action “Alice Comedies” series 20 years earlier!

Due to the popularity of both those projects, it was inevitable that the Disney Studios would create yet ANOTHER film based on the Wonderland characters. This time, the film would be a live-action/CGI film directed by visionary director and ex-Disney artist himself, Tim Burton. It would be called, “Alice in Wonderland”.

This film would go on to make over a billion dollars which convinced the Disney studios to remake more of their animated classics into live-action films. Some films currently in production include live-action adaptations of “Cinderella”, “Beauty and the Beast”, “The Jungle Book”, and “Sleeping Beauty”. This “animation-to-live action remaking ideology” has been met with opposition from many Disney fans around the world.

We pray that you're a good movie...we really pray that you're a good movie!
We pray that you’re a good movie…we really pray that you’re a good movie!

And this controversy would never have arisen had it not been for Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland”! So the question arises, was Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” THAT good of a movie to convince the Disney Studios to remake many of their animated classics? Sure, it was profitable, but was the film of good quality or not? Well, to answer those questions, let’s take a look at the film together! Ladies and gentlemen, this is Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland”!
