The Legend of Lobo (1962)

(SPOILERS AHEAD!)

Don’t let the human in the cover art fool you! This movie is only about an animal…yay.

Directed by James Algar and Jack Couffer, The Legend of Lobo is based on the story, Lobo, the King of Currumpaw, written by Ernest Thompson Seton.

Lobo is a wolf and his story kinda plays out how you would expect: His father is well-known, he grows up as a typical wolf, his mother dies, he gains a reputation, finds a mate, becomes leader of a pack, and stands up against humans and guns. One human tries to kill him in the end, but to no avail.

There is no dialogue in the film; instead we have narration by Rex Allen. Lobo is even given a Sherman Brothers-written song sung by the Sons of the Pioneers.

What else is there to say? It’s definitely not the worst I’ve seen as it did keep me mildly interested. But yeah, I really hope there aren’t many more of these animal movies left!

So, my final score for this film is 23/35 = 65.71% (D) !
