Charlie, the Lonesome Cougar (1967)

(If this is your first time on this blog, I ask you to read my About page first! Thanks!)

Here we go again: another animal-centric Disney fictional film that might as well be a documentary! Well, this one’s gotta be better since it’s about cougars and I actually like wild cats, right? Right? Sigh…let’s take a look at Charlie, the Lonesome Cougar!

And remember, SPOILERS AHEAD!

The Mighty Ducks (1992)

(If this is your first time on this blog, I ask you to read my About page first! Thanks!)

Who would have thought that a film about a lawyer coaching Pee-Wee hockey would lead to a franchise comprising two theatrical sequels, a Disney+ series, an animated series with anthropomorphic hockey-playing duck characters, and an actual NHL team?

And yet Gus never resulted in the formation of the California Atoms NFL team!

Let’s take a look at the film that started it all: The Mighty Ducks!

And remember, SPOILERS AHEAD!

Tex (1982)

(If this is your first time on this blog, I ask you to read my About page first! Thanks!)

Live-action Disney in the 1980s was interesting, to say the least! The company wanted to delve into less family-friendly content eventually leading to the creation of Touchstone Pictures to release more mature films. One such example of a more adult live-action Disney film prior to the creation of Touchstone is the subject of today’s review: Tex! What do I think of it? Read on to find out!

World’s Best (2023)

(If this is your first time on this blog, I ask you to read my About page first! Thanks!)

When I heard that Utkarsh Ambudkar had pitched a film idea to Disney, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Heck, I wasn’t even sure whether this would be a Disney Channel film or not! Anyway, it’s been released on Disney+, so let’s take a look at World’s Best!

Big Red (1962)

(If this is your first time on this blog, I ask you to read my About page first! Thanks!)

Norman Tokar is a name we’ve come across many a time on this blog. He’s directed a plethora of live-action Disney films that range from amazing (The Happiest Millionaire) to terrible (The Boatniks). Today, we take a look at the very first film he directed for Disney: Big Red!

And remember, SPOILERS AHEAD!

Peter Pan & Wendy (2023)

(If this is your first time on this blog, I ask you to read my About page first! Thanks!)

Amongst the multiple live-action remakes of animated films being made by Disney, one of them was Peter Pan. Now this one felt a bit more palatable since it can be seen as a new adaptation of the Peter Pan story (something that has been done so many times in film and TV) rather than a remake of the animated 1953 film itself. Directed by David Lowery, the film debuted on Disney+ rather than going to cinemas. Is it a wonderful thought? Read on for my review of Peter Pan & Wendy!

Popeye (1980)

(If this is your first time on this blog, I ask you to read my About page first! Thanks!)

Who would have thunk that Disney would have made a film about the spinach-loving cartoon sailor, Popeye? Well, in a rare co-production with another studio (Paramount Pictures, in this case), they did! Growing up with the Popeye cartoons, I always had an affection for the characters: him, Olive Oyl, Swee’Pea, Wimpy, and Brutus (I was more familiar with the antagonist being named Brutus rather than Bluto). I never read the actual Popeye comic strip until much later in life. How does this Robert Altman-directed film hold up as an adaptation? Read on to find out!

Summer Magic (1963)

(If this is your first time on this blog, I ask you to read my About page first! Thanks!)

I’ve already reviewed five of the six films that Hayley Mills made for Disney, so it was inevitable that I would eventually complete the set.

I’M ONLY DOING THE THEATRICAL FILMS, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Directed by James Neilson, Summer Magic is a Sherman Brothers musical set in early 20th Century Maine. I hadn’t seen it before, but heard good things from many of my Disney friends. Did I agree with them? Read on for my review of Summer Magic.

Honey, I Blew Up the Kid (1992)

(If this is your first time on this blog, I ask you to read my About page first! Thanks!)

Although apparently not intended as a sequel to Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, Honey, I Blew Up the Kid was released in 1992. For those unfamiliar with the term, to “blow up” something means to enlarge it such as in to “blow up a picture”. We’re not talking about anything dynamite-related here. You’ll get the point as we traverse the film. Enjoy my review of Honey, I Blew Up the Kid!
