Happy 10th Blogoversary!

I can’t believe it’s been 10 years since I started this blog! Last year, I celebrated the 10th blogoversary of my animation-themed blog, The Animation Commendation, and now it’s time to celebrate that milestone for My Live Action Disney Project!

Over 10 years ago, I got the idea of watching all the theatrically-released live-action Disney films ever made and began doing so in my spare time. Then sometime after starting The Animation Commendation, I got the idea of creating a new blog wherein I can review the live-action Disney films as I worked through them as well as share them with others interested in the theatrically-released live-action Disney films. That became My Live Action Disney Project!

I debuted the blog on August 12, 2013 with Oz: The Great and Powerful as my first review. While I didn’t reach the same number of subscribers as I did with The Animation Commendation, I did have enough people who were interested in these films to justify continuing blogging about them.

At first, my reviews were longer, funnier, and more frequent. I would update the blog every week with a new review. I would review two “newer” Disney films (90s-present) and then review two “older” Disney films (80s and earlier). Eventually, I switched to updating the blog every two weeks and alternating between a “newer” and “older” Disney film each time.

I never considered myself to be a “real” film critic (and still don’t), so I created a rubric to help me grade films. Admittedly, it took a few tries to get used to using the rubric in the best way as is evident in probably my most controversial review: Pollyanna!

I gave it an F….I know, I’m sorry!

Two things in particular that I didn’t expect when starting this blog is that Disney would get obsessed with making live-action remakes of their animated films as well as that Disney would create its own streaming service during the COVID-19 pandemic. The first issue forced me to watch these remakes whereas had I not had this blog. And the second issue forced me to make a decision as to whether or not I should review Disney+ films on this blog along with the theatrical ones. I eventually decided to, but sometimes regret my decision because it’s hard to tell which Disney+ film is actually made by the main Disney studio itself.

So far, I’ve reviewed 195 live-action Disney films for the blog and still have more to go! The end of the race is nearing, but I think it’ll still take me a while to get there. I want to thank everyone who’s been a supporter of me and this blog, be it from the beginning or even recently. My blog doesn’t get as much attention now as it did in the past, but I’m determined to continue and get to the end!

Happy 10th blogoversary to me! And hopefully I’ll be done with this before the next 10th!
